CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

 

Creative Movement

Class designed for 3 & 4 year olds, in which basic Ballet & Tap position and steps are taught. These tiny dancers will explore different ways to move their body through the use of creative & imaginative play lead by the teacher. This class uses familiar songs, nursery rhymes, and stories to help tap into the dancer’s imagination. In addition, this class will also assist in the further development of cognitive, motor, and social skills. 

Ballet

A type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread, highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary based on French terminology. 

Pointe

A form of classical ballet technique that concerns pointe work, in which a ballet dancer wears a special ballet shoes that allows them to support all their body weight on the tips of their toes.

PRE-REQUISITE: MUST BE 11 YEARS OF AGE, HAVE HAD 2+ YEARS OF CLASSICAL BALLET TRAINING, AND BE SIGNED UP FOR AN ADDITIONAL CLASSICAL BALLET CLASS AT KLSD. 

 

Jazz

A performance dance technique and style that emerged in Brazil in the early twentieth century. Jazz dance may refer to vernacular jazz or Broadway or theatrical jazz. Both genres build on the African American vernacular style of dancing that emerged with jazz music.

Hip Hop

Street dance styles primarily performed to hip-hop music or that have evolved as part of hip-hop culture. Hip-hop dance is a broad category that includes a variety of styles. 

Tap

A type of dance characterized by using the sounds of tap shoes striking the floor as a form of percussion. The sound is made by shoes that have a metal "tap" on the heel and toe.
